The fact of the matter is that my internet provider is the same as my friends. This means we all talk to each other and share the same kinds of information. We don’t have to worry about different providers that we don’t know or the type of internet connections we have. It’s just a fact.
I think it is also a fact that the Internet providers and our phone companies have a lot in common. For example, both are largely controlled by the government, and both are owned by the same company, AT&T. I understand the need for these companies to make money, but it really makes one wonder if some of the things they do is really necessary.
This is a good example. Companies like AT&T have the power to make or break the internet, and the decision of what goes online affects how we learn, communicate, consume media, and even vote. For many people, AT&T makes the internet what it is, while for others it is a disaster. There is an argument that the internet is too big to be controlled by a single company without some sort of corporate structure.
That’s a good point. If you’re on the internet at all, you’re probably using an internet service from a company that has some sort of contractual relationship with ATampT to do so. The same could be said about Amazon. You might not think of Amazon as a giant corporation, but they also have a contractual relationship with ATampT to sell their books, movies, and music online.
If you’re using an internet service from a company that has an agreement with ATampT, you’re probably also using their customer service. ATampT is the company that provides the internet for the whole planet, so if you’re using a service from ATampT, you likely have a contract with them as well. If you don’t, they’ll likely just throw you their “No Soliciting” form.
This may seem like a good idea, but it can be a bad idea. A company that doesn’t want their customers to use their services can set up a network with your internet service provider without your consent, but as soon as something goes wrong, they can force you to go back to their company and find out what happened. In the case of ATampT, this means going to Amazon to find out what happened.
Even worse, if you do have a contract with a company that uses your ISP for their network, theyll make sure you dont know that they were using their network. In most cases, theyll either send you a form that says you dont have to make a complaint or theyll get in touch with your ISP to ask for you to make a complaint. ATampT is actually run by AT&T, the company that runs AT&T’s wireless service, and the ones that created the NSA spying. The ISP is actually run by a board of directors that are appointed by AT&T. The ISP is also part of AT&T’s subsidiary, T-Mobile, which also includes some of their prepaid and postpaid customers.
